In the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the Kangra Valley, is Palampur, a hill station and municipal council. Nestled between the Dhauladhar hills on one side and pine forests on the other, it is the tea capital of northwest India. The term “palum,” which translates to “lots of water,” is how the town got its name. From Palampur, there are many streams that run from the plains to the mountains. Palampur has a unique appearance because of the water and nature surrounding it. A significant city in the Kangra Valley is Palampur.

This well-known hill station was formerly a part of the kingdom of Jalandhar. When the tea shrub was brought from Almora by Dr. Jameson, Superintendent of Botanical Gardens, in 1849, the town was born. The town and the bush flourished, and the European tea estate owners began to concentrate there. The notable Wah Tea Estate, owned by Nawab Muhammad Hayat Khan and his heirs until 1947, was one of the exceptions. Since then, Palampur’s Kangra tea has gained recognition throughout the world.
